' This is unique': Regional fallen Marine will be honored throughout NASCAR race


ALLIANCE, Ohio – – It will be a Memorial Day to remember for Mollie Handy and Carrie
Meissner of Alliance.

" Oh my gosh, I was type of stunned. We aren't NASCAR people. This is all new to us," stated Meissner.

On Sunday, fallen Marine Lance Corporal Daniel McVicker will be among those honored throughout the NASCAR Coca Cola 600 race in Charlotte, North Carolina.

McVicker's mom, Carrie, and sister, Mollie, will go to the race.

" We get to go to lunch, we get to go through the garage. We got welcomed to these ceremonies. We get to go to the race," said Handy.

Driver Aric Almirola will complete in the # 10 Ford Mustang for Stewart-Haas Racing, which will include McVicker's name across the windscreen.

" After 18 years, you don't anticipate these kinds of things to take place. We are just very thrilled that he gets to be kept in mind," stated Handy.

When a roadside bomb struck the Humvee he was driving in Iraq back in 2005, McVicker was eliminated. A 2003 graduate of West Branch High School, he was just 20 years old.

Each cars and truck in the race pays tribute to a fallen military service member.

McVicker's household states it is fitting. Mollie states Daniel had a passion for music, sports and fast vehicles.

"We constantly remember him. He's always a part of our lives, but this is special," stated Handy.
