2-year-old reunited with first responders who helped save his life in Sacramento

(FOX40.COM) - - A 2-year-old kid who was discovered on the flooring of his grandparents' house not breathing and unconscious beat the odds of enduring and reunited with those who conserved his life.

" I've remained in the fire service for over 20 years and this was among those calls that you simply do not ever forget," stated Sacramento Metro Fire Department Battalion Chief Joe Aldrich.

In April, the kid called Kai was supposedly having fun with his uncle at his grandparents' home when he struck his head. He suffered a brain bleed and a broken skull.

Upon arrival to the scene Aldrich, who was a captain at the time, was one of the responders to perform chest compressions and battled to get Khai's heart whipping. The child was later on transported to UC Davis Children's Hospital Intensive Care Unit where he was intubated..

There, he had trouble breathing and his kidneys remained in flux.

Khais family fretted that he wouldn't make it out alive.

" It was growing out of control like that for a week," stated Khai's mom, Ni Ton. "And then he had the ability to pull through.".

After a week in a coma Khai opened his eyes, said his parents' names, and quickly after was back to his typical self. His family stated they're grateful to have him back, and grateful for the very first responders that saved his life. Considering that remaining in the coma Khai became a big sibling to a 4-month-old kid.

On Monday Khai paid a visit to the first responders who assisted in saving his life. He walked into their firehouse, appreciated the fire trucks, and jumped into the arms of the very first responders who revived him.

" Letting them see that he's alright – – I think is so special," Ton stated.

The very first responders stated that seeing Khai alive is why they do what they do.
