As UNC students return, Chapel Hill cops crack down on alcohol in the area


CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (WNCN) - - Chapel Hill authorities stated they will be punishing alcohol use and sales in the area this weekend simply as UNC-Chapel Hill trainees are returning for the fall semester.

A month back, the Chapel Hill Police Department examined 43 services in an underage alcohol sting.

Throughout the weekend of July 22, cops said they inspected that bars, stores, and restaurants weren't selling alcohol to minor individuals. Two corner store and 3 restaurants/bars failed the checks that weekend.

Now, authorities said they prepare to conduct "unique alcohol safety operations" this weekend - - consisting of Saturday night.

UNC trainees were moving into dormitories on Friday and classes are set to begin Monday.

Cops said the crackdown is "in addition to routine patrols."

"This advance notice becomes part of our dedication to inform our neighborhood, with the hope we can collaborate to avoid dangers connected to alcohol," police said in a press release.
