AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) – – According to federal health officials, the brand-new suggested age for women to start getting mammograms is 40-years-old, when it was formerly 50.
These guidelines are based on proof that reveals more and more women being detected with breast cancer.
" Even in my time here working at the Medical College of Georgia, we're seeing very young females being detected with breast cancer," stated Dr. Jordan Ciuro at Georgia Cancer. "And as all of us understand, breast cancer is really common in females. In fact the data shows us that one in 8 women are detected with breast cancer in their life time."
This suggestion is for ladies who are considered at an "typical risk" for breast cancer. However for those who are at high threat, professionals are prompting screenings at an even more youthful age.
