Barkley Bridge trainees invest afternoon building hovercrafts

HARTSELLE, Ala. (BNN)-- Field journeys are frequently the most enjoyable days kids invest at school.

On Thursday, Barkley Bridge students dumped the class to learn how to build hovercrafts.

Hovercraft Project, which is based in Florida, takes a trip to schools across the country. They teach trainees how to construct hovercrafts utilizing household products, like a leaf blower.

The trainees remained in groups racing the hovercrafts against one another. They learned group work and problem resolving skills by having to think outside the box in order to cross the finish line.

"You might believe we're simply building hovercrafts, but truly we are teaching kids about valuing themselves as individuals and finding out to have a love for knowing," said Hovercraft Project owner Jenni Chase.

"We actually desire them to be curious people and as they enter adulthood to utilize that curiosity to fix world issues," stated Chase.

Adults in the room, including News 19's own Alexa Harley, also got to take part in the fun and race the hovercrafts too!
