ORANGEBURG COUNTY, S.C. — A fatal hit-and-run collision has left a bicyclist dead in South Carolina, prompting an urgent search for the driver responsible. The South Carolina Highway Patrol (SCHP) is asking for the public's help in tracking down the suspect.
The incident occurred around 7:40 p.m. on May 28, 2024, along Highway 210 near Orangeburg County. According to investigators, the bicyclist was struck by a vehicle that fled the scene without stopping. The victim, whose identity has not yet been released, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The SCHP is urging anyone with information—including nearby surveillance footage or dashcam recordings—to come forward. "Someone knows something, and we need their help to bring justice for the victim," said a highway patrol spokesperson.
Hit-and-run crashes have been on the rise nationwide, with many cases going unsolved. South Carolina has seen several similar incidents in recent months, raising concerns about road safety for cyclists and pedestrians.
South Carolina law requires drivers involved in a collision resulting in injury or death to stop immediately and render aid. Fleeing the scene can result in felony charges.
