Deadly Shooting in Barrio Logan: A Community in Shock

In a tragic incident that has left the community of Barrio Logan reeling, a 23-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of two young men over the weekend. The San Diego Police Department reports that Guillermo David Gonzalez allegedly approached his victims and opened fire shortly after 9:30 p.m. on Saturday night.

The Incident

The shooting took place in the 1700 block of Newton Avenue. Following the gunfire, Gonzalez reportedly fled the scene in a 2012 Kia Forte that belonged to one of the victims. In a shocking turn of events, he ordered a woman, who was in the back seat, to exit the vehicle before driving away.

Victims Identified

  • One victim, an 18-year-old male, died at the scene.
  • The second victim, a 23-year-old male, succumbed to his injuries shortly after being transported to a nearby hospital.

Both victims, who are believed to be recent immigrants from Venezuela, have had their names withheld pending notification of their families.

Arrest and Charges

Hours after the shooting, Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies located the stolen Kia with Gonzalez inside in Rosemead. He was arrested without incident. Currently, Gonzalez faces serious charges, including:

  1. Robbery
  2. Carjacking
  3. Two counts of first-degree murder

He is being held at San Diego Central Jail without bail and is scheduled for arraignment on Wednesday afternoon.
