Buc-ee's continues to open new locations and has sparked some controversy due to the company's decision to make a seemingly small, but actually drastic change.
It's hard to find exactly when and where the decision was made, but locations that have opened within the past few years all have a new design when it comes to the iconic Buc-ee's statue that welcomes guests on their way inside.
I don't know about you, but I am just now learning about this change despite it being around for a while now.
I first found out via a TikTok video that compares the old and new design side by side. It is quite a drastic change from the old, goofy beaver to the modern rendition that matches the current logo more closely.

While I would say the new design is an upgrade and translates much better as a part of the brand than the old design, not everyone agrees.
The comments on the TikTok are full of people that prefer the old statue and wish they didn't make the change. From taking away his shoes to losing the old charm, there are a variety of reasons why Texans aren't liking the update. Fortunately, it doesn't look like they are replacing any of the old statues, simply adding the new look to new stores.
Some people had a positive outlook saying that now you can tell the classic locations apart from the new ones.
Overall, it seems like many people want to hold onto the nostalgia of the original statue no matter if the new one looks better or not. I guess it is simply all up to opinion.
