Burnet County Judge James Oakley indicted on felony and misdemeanor charges

BURNET, Texas (KXAN) - - Burnet County Judge James Oakley was prosecuted this week on two felony and 2 misdemeanor charges, according to the Burnet County Sheriff's Office.

The charges, according to the sheriff's workplace, are:



  • Tamper/Fabricate Physical Evidence W/Intent to Impair


  • Abuse of Official Capacity-Cnt 1

  • Abuse of Official Capacity-Cnt 2

  • Official Oppression



There is a warrant out for his arrest. As of Thursday morning, Oakley was still not in prison. The sheriff's workplace said authorities are awaiting Oakley to turn himself in.

KXAN requested the arrest warrant and indictment records from the Burnet County District Attorney's Office, but the workplace said the documents are not public. As soon as we get those records, we will have more information on the scenarios surrounding the charges.

We have actually reached out to Judge Oakley about the charges, but have actually not heard back.
