The council is dedicated to preserving and promoting the rich artistic heritage of Alabama by supporting various art organizations, schools, and colleges across the state. This competition is a perfect example of their commitment to fostering community engagement and artistic expression.

How the Competition Works

This exciting competition is open to all local artists, where a selection committee will choose 10-20 talented individuals to transform rocking chairs into eye-catching pieces of art. Here’s what you need to know:

  • Stipend and Supplies: Each selected artist will receive a stipend and materials to create their masterpiece.
  • Timeline: Artists will have until January 21st to complete their painted chairs, focusing on both creativity and durability.
  • Display and Auction: The rocking chairs will be showcased in February 2025 and auctioned off within the community.

Kristy Biddle, Executive Director of Main Street Leeds, expressed her enthusiasm: “I’m thrilled about the upcoming rocking chair art project and the opportunity it presents to bring more creativity and beauty to Leeds. I believe this project can spark a vibrant wave of artistic expression, inspiring both locals and visitors alike, and fostering a deeper appreciation for art in our community.”
