AUSTIN (KXAN)-- Cedar Park cops stated a man who had money stolen in a "jugging" scenario took it upon himself to follow the suspect and it resulted in a shooting.
Jugging, according to previous KXAN reporting, occurs when a suspect watches a victim withdraw money, then follows them to another area and steals it from them.
That's what Cedar Park cops said taken place Monday, when a guy withdrew cash from a bank near Ranch to Market Road 1431 and U.S. Highway 183, then went to a gasoline station in Lago Vista, where he said somebody broke his cars and truck window while he was inside.
Authorities got a call from a man at 4:10 p.m., telling them he was "following an automobile who had just stolen cash from him and was trying to stop the cars and truck." At that time, he was near South Lakeline Boulevard and Cypress Creek Road.
Cops said the man pulled in front of the automobile he thought the suspects were driving, saw they had a gun, and took out his own gun and fired. It hit the chauffeur of the suspect cars and truck in the mouth, cops said. The man fired again, and the other vehicle repelled.
Authorities said right after, a man who had been shot showed up at a neighboring healthcare facility. Around 5:30 p.m., authorities tweeted about "a disturbance where possible shots were fired," and asked individuals to be on the lookout for a man in his early 20s last seen walking in the area. Cops believe the passenger in the vehicle left, then grabbed a Lyft to Houston.
"The Houston Violent Crimes Task Force arranged for a takedown of the Lyft automobile in Houston and had the ability to stop, recognize, and apprehend the other male suspect and recover the cash," Cedar Park cops wrote in a release.
Cops have actually not released the identities of anybody associated with the case and stated it was still being examined.
