Citadel Mall is set to transform into a vibrant hub of celebration as it hosts the annual Juneteenth festival, a historic commemoration of the end of slavery in the United States. This year’s event promises a dynamic mix of live performances, educational exhibits, and local vendors, offering something for everyone in the community.
Juneteenth—observed on June 19—marks the day in 1865 when enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, finally learned of their freedom, two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. The festival at Citadel Mall honors this pivotal moment while celebrating Black culture, resilience, and progress.
Beyond celebration, the event emphasizes education and empowerment. Organizers have partnered with local historians to present exhibits detailing Juneteenth’s origins and its significance today. Attendees can also register to vote and connect with community advocacy groups.
