As we bid adieu to a mild Labor Day weekend, San Diegans should prepare for a significant weather shift. Forecasters have indicated that a heatwave is set to sweep across parts of San Diego County later this week, transforming comfortable temperatures into sweltering highs.
On Saturday, downtown San Diego experienced pleasant weather with a high reaching around 78°F, accompanied by light breezes and mostly sunny skies. However, this is just the calm before the storm!
As the week progresses, temperatures are expected to rise steadily, culminating in a more dramatic warm-up by mid to late week, even affecting coastal areas. The hottest days are anticipated on Thursday and Friday, where inland valleys may see temperatures soar into the 90s and low 100s.
The National Weather Service (NWS) San Diego office emphasized, “Temperatures will be warming each day into next week, with a more significant warm-up in store.”
For those looking to hit the waves, Sunday’s surf forecast indicates a low-risk rip current, with waves ranging from 1 to 3 feet and water temperatures between 62°F and 74°F. The NWS noted a mixed swell from both the south and west, perfect for surfers.
Additionally, the marine layer is expected to become shallower next week, leading to less fog and more sunshine. Fortunately, no hazardous marine conditions are anticipated through at least Thursday.
As the heat intensifies, it’s crucial for residents to stay hydrated and take precautions against heat-related illnesses. Whether you're at the beach or in the desert, remember to protect yourself from the sun!
