The US Coast Guard is suspending its look for 3 missing Americans last heard from on April 4 near Mazatlán, Mexico, according to a Coast Guard press release.

William Gross, seen here, is among 3 American sailors last heard from on April 4 near Mazatlán, Mexico.( Family handout).
The search was suspended "pending further developments" after Mexican Navy and United States Coast Guard responders "carried out 281 cumulative search hours covering approximately 200,057 square nautical miles" with no sign of the missing out on vessel or travelers, the release said.

2 males and one female aboard the vessel "Ocean Bound" apparently left Mazatlán on April 4 on their way to San Diego with strategies to drop in Cabo San Lucas, however ultimately did not report in or arrive there, the release stated.

Kerry O'Brien, Frank O'Brien and William Gross are all "experienced sailors," according to an earlier joint declaration from their households.

" An exhaustive search was performed by our global search and rescue partner, Mexico, with the U.S. Coast Guard and Canada offering extra search assets," said Commander Gregory Higgins, command center chief of Coast Guard District 11. "Unfortunately, we discovered no evidence of the three Americans' location or what might have occurred. Our inmost compassions head out to the friends and families of William Gross, Kerry O'Brien and Frank O'Brien.".

The family is requesting privacy at this time, the release said.

Higgins had formerly told CNN that the weather was less than perfect when the trio set out.
" When they began their voyage we understand that the conditions were not ideal for that type of journey, though definitely, there were sailing vessels out there throughout that time. Winds potentially over 30 seas and knots 15 to 20, perhaps more, feet at the time of their trip," Higgins told CNN's Fredricka Whitfield on Saturday.
