Flags in Colorado will be flown at half-staff on Tuesday in memory of Corey Comperatore, a volunteer firefighter who tragically lost his life at former President Donald Trump's rally in Pennsylvania.
Authorities stated that Comperatore, 50, died protecting his family at the rally. Colorado Gov. Jared Polis expressed his condolences, saying, "My thoughts are with hero Corey Comperatore's family and friends during this terrible time. There are no words that can take away the pain of this moment, but together we can help honor his life and the man that he was."
President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden also extended their "deepest condolences" to Comperatore's family, with Biden stating, "He was a father. He was protecting his family from the bullets that were being fired and he lost his life, God love him."
Randy Reamer, president of the Buffalo Township volunteer fire company, described Comperatore as "a stand-up guy" and "a true brother of the fire service." Comperatore had served as chief of the company for about three years and was a life member, indicating over 20 years of service.
Assistant Chief Ricky Heasley of Sarver, who knew Comperatore for more than a decade, remembered him as very outgoing and full of life, saying, "He never had a bad word."
