Cousins discovered dead at North Carolina party had fentanyl in system, reports state

WILSON, N.C. (WNCN) - - Reports released Monday and Tuesday said two females cousins passed away with fentanyl among drugs in their system during a celebration at a Wilson home over the summer season.

Two females in Wilson passed away after a 911 employ mid-August reported they were fainting and not awakening, Wilson cops stated.

The occurrence was reported as an "unconscious/fainting call" just after 7:05 p.m. on August 21 at a home in the 1100 block of Gold Street, according to a press release from the Wilson Police Department.

" Wilson 911 reported that two women were unconscious and not getting up," the press release said. Officials then identified that the 2 females were dead.

The ladies were identified as Malica Harris, 27, of Rocky Mount, and her cousin, Tanisha Harris, 26, of Tarboro, authorities stated.

Autopsies were performed on the ladies a week after their deaths, according to the North Carolina Medical Examiner's Office.

Both reports about the deaths were released Monday. The reports stated both women died from "Multiple drug intoxication (ethanol, drug, fentanyl).".

The autopsies likewise said there were no injuries.

Tanisha Harris had a fentanyl level in her blood of 98 ng/mL while Malica Harris had a level of 55 ng/mL, a toxicology report stated.

Blood concentrations of about 7 ng/ml or higher have actually been associated with casualties where poly-substance use was included.

A different report released Tuesday by the N.C. Medical Examiner said two men were at the home when the cousins were found dead.

The report stated "The ladies came over to hang out. They mentioned that they partied till about (4 p.m.) that afternoon which they all went to sleep.".

The two men informed officials "they were consuming beer and vodka however they rejected using any drugs and specified that they did not know if the girls utilized any drugs before they came.".

Member of the family later on informed authorities that Tanisha Harris did not have any history of "utilizing drugs that they understood of.".

The Tuesday report did not indicate if the deaths were natural, accidental or a homicide. That area of the report was left blank.
