A violent multi-vehicle collision on the I-5 Freeway in northern Orange County turned deadly early Friday morning, leaving one person dead and four others hospitalized with serious injuries. The crash, which happened near the Tustin Avenue exit around 3:45 a.m., involved at least three vehicles and triggered a massive emergency response.
First responders arrived to a scene of mangled metal and widespread debris. Firefighters worked for nearly an hour to extricate two victims trapped in their vehicles. The California Highway Patrol immediately shut down multiple lanes, creating a miles-long backup that lasted well into the morning commute.
Investigators remained on scene for over six hours documenting evidence and interviewing witnesses. Early reports suggest a possible chain-reaction crash began when one vehicle lost control, but officials have not confirmed this theory.
