Houston, Texas – A tense shootout erupted at a Harris County courthouse Tuesday morning, leaving a deputy wounded and the armed suspect dead. The chaotic scene unfolded as law enforcement confronted the gunman, whose motives remain under investigation.
According to officials, the incident began when the suspect—identified only as an adult male—opened fire near the courthouse entrance. A deputy was struck during the exchange before other officers returned fire, neutralizing the threat. The wounded deputy was rushed to the hospital and is expected to recover.
Authorities quickly secured the area, evacuating courthouse staff and bystanders. Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez praised the rapid response, stating, "Our deputies acted with precision under extreme pressure." Investigators are now reviewing surveillance footage and witness testimonies.
While the shooting appears isolated, law enforcement has not ruled out potential connections to pending cases or personal grievances. The suspect’s identity is being withheld pending family notification. No additional threats have been reported.
