In a groundbreaking revelation from Tokyo, Japanese toy manufacturer MegaHouse has introduced a miniature Rubik's Cube so small, it requires tweezers to solve! This tiny marvel is sure to captivate both puzzle enthusiasts and collectors alike.
Kiyokazu Saito, president of Iriso Precision—the company responsible for the cube's precision cutting—shared insights during a promotional video. He described the cube as the product of a "trinity of machines, cutting tools, and the passion of players." This intricate design process began four years ago, with production commencing in 2022.
The Guinness World Records confirmed that this micro-cube is officially the smallest twisting puzzle in the world, surpassing the previous record held by British designer Tony Fisher, whose cube measured 5.6 millimeters back in 2016.
However, this tiny cube comes with a hefty price tag of 777,777 yen (approximately $5,320). Each cube is sold with a base that proudly declares its status as the "world's smallest Rubik's Cube." Given its price, it's poised to become more of a collector's item rather than a puzzle to be casually enjoyed.
The launch of this miniature cube coincides with the 50th anniversary of the iconic puzzle, which has sold over 500 million units since its invention by Hungarian architect Ernő Rubik in 1974. The Rubik's Cube continues to be a source of fascination for hobbyists and mathematicians worldwide, with annual tournaments held to crown the fastest solvers.
The current record holder for the standard 3x3x3 cube is Max Park, a 22-year-old Korean-American who solved the puzzle in just 3.13 seconds during a competition in Long Beach, California, last year. Following closely is 10-year-old Wang Yiheng from China, who achieved a personal best of 3.38 seconds in August, as reported by the World Cube Association.
This stunning innovation not only pushes the boundaries of engineering and design but also celebrates the enduring legacy of a beloved puzzle. As enthusiasts prepare to get their hands on this unique item, one thing is clear: the Rubik's Cube continues to evolve, captivating new generations of fans.
