HERNANDO, Miss. - - Days after a DeSoto County Jail inmate left of court on his own and vanished, a lot of concerns remain as to how something like this might occur.

Last Friday, Joshua Zimmerman walked out of the Hernando, Mississippi court house, he hasn't been seen given that.

DeSoto County District Attorney Matthew Barton's office was set to be in court for Zimmerman's hearing.

" This is as unsafe and as bad as they get," Barton stated. "He's a profession crook. He has no regard for the safety of other people. It's a miracle that no one was hurt in the court house or on our square."

" He has actually not been arraigned," Barton said. "We really had his case, set up to go on our next grand jury and that's the status. That was the update we were going (with) for a while with the court on Friday."

Zimmerman has actually not yet been arraigned but the case was set up to be heard by the next grand jury. The case involves an attempted murder charge.

Barton told BNN what occurred before Zimmerman even got to the courtroom.

" So I've in fact I've seen a video from inside the court house," Barton said. "They came inside the court house, they're going upstairs to the courtroom. He's using shackles and an one-piece suit like everyone else. He broke from the line (and) went through a door. At some point later on, he left the courthouse with no shackles and street clothes."
