Dine 909: Taco Bender to close Saturday after 60 years in San Bernardino

Pablo's Taco Bender will serve its last order of pork chili fries Saturday, May 6.

The longtime (since 1963) Mexican food drive-thru has been offered and its owners, Paul and Michael Perea are retiring.

The siblings took over business 30 years earlier after their parents died.

Hours for the remainder of the week are 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Taco Bender is at 1232 W. Base Line, San Bernardino.

Now open in Upland


Egg N Bird hatched just recently in Upland.

The chain not just provides a range of fried chicken sandwiches, however also chicken bowls, wings and breakfast items, consisting of an egg and fried chicken burrito.

Egg N Bird is at 296 S. Mountain Ave.

It's the first Inland Empire website for the chain, which also has locations in Cypress, Maywood and Pico Rivera.

Hours are 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.

Beer anniversary


Inland Wharf is commemorating its 2nd anniversary-- because resuming-- from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, May 6.

The brewery initially opened in February 2017.

The brewery is guaranteeing a beer release, raffles, axe throwing and a DJ.

Food will be available from Nini's BBQ and The Mac Truck.

Inland Wharf is at 26440 Jefferson Ave., Suite A, Murrieta.

Freebie for nurses, instructors


In honor of National Nurses Day (May 6) and Teacher Appreciation Week (May 6-12), Applebee's franchisee Flynn Restaurant Group is providing teachers and nurses a totally free appetizer with the purchase of an entrée.

This deal is available for dine-in only through Saturday, May 13, by showing a valid work badge.

Participating Inland Empire locations consist of Rancho Cucamonga, Redlands, Riverside, Temecula, Corona, Apple Valley, Chino, Hemet, Highland, Menifee, Mira Loma, Montclair, Moreno Valley, Murrieta, Fontana, Ontario, Victorville and San Dimas.

Beer matching supper


Appointments are now being taken for the next BJ's Restaurant and Brewhouse beer-pairing dinner, set for 6:30 p.m. Monday, May 8, or Tuesday, May 9, depending on the location.

The dinner will include beers from Founders Brewing.

The menu is as follows.

Welcome Beer: All Day IPA


Course 1: All Day West Coast IPA, coupled with Strawberry Fields Salad with Chicken


Course 2: BJ's CureVeza Mexican Lager, paired with Chicken Tortilla Soup


Course 3: 4 Giants Tropical Treasure Hazy IPA, paired with BJ's Spicy Pig Tavern-Cut Pizza


Course 4: KBS, coupled with Slow-Roasted Tri-Tip


Palate Cleanser: BJ's Mad Crazy Mango IPA


Course 5: Breakfast Stout, coupled with Mini Triple Chocolate Pizookie made with Ghirardelli


The cost is $45 in advance, and will be $50 the day of, if available. The cost for designated drivers is $30.

The price does not include tax or gratuity.

The Chino Hills, Corona, Menifee, Moreno Valley, San Bernardino and Temecula locations will host the dinner Monday, May 8, while the Rancho Cucamonga and Victorville areas will do so Tuesday, May 9.

In other BJ's news, through June 28, the chain is contributing 25 cents from each pint of CureVeza Mexican Lager brewed to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, a company dedicated to finding a remedy for multiple sclerosis while empowering people affected by the disease to live their best lives.

One hand giveth


Rival Coffee Co., which released its Sips & & Eats breakfast service at its Temecula coffeehouse in February and at its Murrieta coffeehouse in April, has closed its Temecula area.

The Murrieta place is at 24865 Hospitality Place, Building E.

Hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday and 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
