DUI arrest made after San Joaquin County pursuit

(FOX40.COM) - - The Tracy Police Department said it arrested a 21-year-old Tracy local for a DUI after being led on a highway pursuit on Sunday.

According to police, the 21-year-old was given sobriety tests and a breathalyzer before it was determined that they were intoxicated and taken to a San Joaquin County prison.

Right before midnight on Sunday, a Tracy police officer observed an "irregular chauffeur" near Grant Line Road and Corral Hollow Road who he thought to be under the influence.

Cops said they tried to initiate a traffic stop with the chauffeur, however the person "evaded [police] and left onto the highway."

" Upon the driver's go back to Tracy minutes later on, a short pursuit took place until Tracy law enforcement officer effectively cornered the automobile [and utilized] a pursuit intervention technique (PIT) maneuver to bring it to a drop in the location of 11th Street and Lammers Road," the Tracy Police Department stated on Facebook.

Cops continued, "As a suggestion, driving under the influence not just endangers the security of the motorist but also runs the risk of the lives of innocent onlookers on the highways."

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, about 37 individuals pass away every day from driving under the influence in the United States, which has to do with a single person every 39 minutes.

California Highway Patrol adds that there were more than 125,000 DUI-related arrests in the state in 2023, which indicates there were an average of over 340 DUI arrests made every day in California.
