INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana (BNN) – In a thrilling encounter, El Paso Locomotive FC experienced its first defeat in over a month, falling 3-1 to Indy Eleven on Saturday evening. This match not only showcased the intensity of competition but also highlighted areas for improvement as the Locos prepare for their next challenge.
Indy Eleven started strong, taking an early lead in the 12th minute. Despite some promising offensive plays from El Paso, Indy’s relentless attack kept the pressure high. However, Locomotive goalkeeper Jahmali Waite made a stunning diving save in the 32nd minute, preventing a second goal and keeping the match within reach as the teams headed into halftime.
After the break, Indy returned with renewed vigor, netting two more goals in quick succession. Their offense was firing on all cylinders, leaving El Paso scrambling to regain control. It wasn't until the 83rd minute that forward Ricardo Zacarias, a Las Cruces native, broke through for El Paso, scoring his first goal of the season and igniting a glimmer of hope for the Locos.
Despite Zacarias' late goal, Indy Eleven's defense tightened up, successfully thwarting any chance of a comeback by El Paso and sealing their victory. This loss ended the Locos' impressive three-match unbeaten streak, a tough pill to swallow for the team.
El Paso will now shift its focus to their upcoming home match against Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC on Saturday, September 21. The Locos are eager to bounce back and avenge their earlier defeat this season.
