Elon Musk, often referred to as a "free speech absolutist," recently filed a lawsuit against advertisers who chose to pull their ads from his platform, claiming that their actions go against the principles of free speech. However, the reality behind this lawsuit is more complex than it seems.
The lawsuit, filed in a Texas federal court, targets advertisers for leaving Twitter/X, despite the fact that these advertisers likely made the decision to withdraw their ads due to concerns about hate speech and misinformation on the platform, as well as a decrease in user engagement under Musk's leadership.
This move by Musk is particularly ironic given that just recently, Republicans called for boycotts on companies that pulled their ads from Twitter. The question arises: are boycotts acceptable only when they benefit the wealthiest individuals?
