Get ready, disc golf enthusiasts! The Girl Scouts of North Central Alabama (GSNCA) are set to unveil the first professional-grade disc golf course in the Birmingham Metro area, nestled at the historic Camp Coleman—one of the oldest running Girl Scout camps in the United States. This initiative promises to blend fun, fitness, and community, making it a must-visit destination for players and families alike.
Disc golf, often referred to as frisbee golf, is rapidly gaining traction across the nation. With over 4 million players participating annually, it stands as one of the fastest-growing sports in the United States, according to the Professional Disc Golf Association. Players of all ages enjoy the thrill of throwing a disc into a basket, competing to see who can score with the fewest throws—much like traditional golf.
The GSNCA is collaborating with the Cahaba Disc Company to bring this ambitious project to life. The new course, aptly named the Kristofer Robinson Memorial Disc Golf Course, will not only serve as a recreational space but also pay tribute to Kristofer Robinson, who lost his life tragically due to a drunk driving incident. The course aims to promote safe driving awareness while fostering a sense of community.
According to a recent announcement from GSNCA, the public can look forward to an exhilarating disc golfing experience, featuring:
Design visionaries Jasen White and Nick Romano from Cahaba Disc Company, along with Tim Keith, are dedicated to ensuring that this course will become one of the premier disc golf experiences in Alabama. “We are thrilled to introduce this pro-level course as we truly believe it will become one of the best in the state,” White stated.
The course is scheduled to open its doors to the public in Spring 2025. This is an excellent opportunity for both seasoned players and newcomers to engage with the sport and enjoy the great outdoors!
