During the early hours of Saturday morning in San Diego, a routine traffic stop turned into a fatal crash that claimed the life of a 25-year-old man and left his female passenger critically injured.
According to the San Diego Police Department, the incident occurred around 12:45 a.m. when officers pulled over a 2019 Harley Davidson motorcycle for a traffic violation at 6200 Imperial Ave.
Upon discovering that the male rider had a felony arrest warrant, officers informed him of his arrest. However, the man fled the scene, heading westbound on Imperial Avenue before the police could initiate a pursuit.
Tragically, the motorcycle was traveling at a high speed and collided with two parked vehicles at 5200 Imperial Avenue, ejecting both the rider and passenger. The rider was pronounced dead at the scene, while the passenger suffered a life-threatening amputation to her left leg and was rushed to a local hospital.
Authorities have ruled out alcohol as a factor in the collision. The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is urged to contact the SDPD at 619-531-2000 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 888-580-8477.
