Fentanyl poisoning leads to Northern California infant's death

(FOX40.COM) - - Northern California police officers recently arrested a female for child abuse after discovering that her kid passed away of fentanyl poisoning.

The Chico Police Department stated on Wednesday that Christy Scarbrough, 40, was detained on May 30 for kid abuse with possible excellent physical injury or death and abuse leading to death, including that the baby was able to access the fentanyl due to the fact that it was left ignored next to the location where they would sleep.

According to police, officers were called to Enloe Hospital in Chico for the death of a 1-year-old on June 6, 2023. Upon arrival, officers learned that the kid was driven to the healthcare facility by their mother, who was recognized as Scarbrough.

The Butte County Sheriff's Office and Chico Police Department started investigating the death at the child's home, located at 200 E. 8th Ave, and right away discovered fentanyl drug stuff next to the child's bed.

Police started interviewing relative and gathering proof before identifying that the kid died due to "severe fentanyl intoxication."

" Detectives obtained additional evidence suggesting Scarbrough was using fentanyl before and
after the baby's death," Chico police said.

Scarbrough was required to a jail in Butte County for her criminal offenses, police included.
