Former mayor of South Dakota town pleads innocent in triple murder case

CENTERVILLE, S.D.-- A former law officer who as soon as served as a tiny South Dakota town's mayor has pleaded not guilty in a three-person killing. The Sioux Falls Argus Leader reports 64-year-old Jay Ostrem on Thursday pleaded not guilty and not guilty by factor of insanity to 3 counts of first-degree murder, 3 counts of second-degree murder and 3 counts of felony first-degree murder. An attorney for Ostrem didn't right away react to an Associated Press request for comment Friday. The victims killed on Memorial Day in Centerville were two bros, ages 26 and 21, and a 35-year-old guy. A probable cause affidavit says Ostrem's other half told cops that one of the guys had actually sexually assaulted her.
