Throughout his law enforcement career, Jones received accolades and commendations for his work, including being the first Black K-9 handler in the department. However, two incidents of internal discipline mar his record. One incident involved striking a handcuffed suspect during an arrest, while the other was an accidental discharge of his service weapon during an undercover operation.
Despite these incidents, Jones' experience and dedication to Akron were highlighted during the hiring process for his new role at Akron Public Schools. The superintendent and other decision-makers ultimately believed he was the best candidate for the job, emphasizing his deep roots in the community and commitment to student safety.
