A devastating fire tore through a Franklin home early Tuesday morning, leaving one man hospitalized and a family with nowhere to go. Firefighters battled the blaze for hours as thick black smoke billowed into the sky, drawing concerned neighbors out into the cold.
Neighbor Sarah Whitmore described hearing screams followed by the acrid smell of smoke. "I looked out my window and saw orange flames licking at the roof," she said. "Before I could even grab my phone, the whole second floor was engulfed."
Fire Chief Roland Hayes noted the extreme difficulty of fighting the blaze: "The home's older construction and winter winds created perfect conditions for rapid fire spread. Our crews made an aggressive interior attack despite collapsing roof sections."
