OMAHA, NE—For over a month, a critical section of Zorinsky Lake’s fishing pier trail has been closed after a sudden collapse, leaving anglers and outdoor enthusiasts frustrated by the lack of repairs. The damaged structure, a popular spot for families and fishermen, remains cordoned off with no clear timeline for restoration.
The collapse occurred without warning, crumbling a portion of the wooden walkway that extends into the lake. Regular visitors say the pier had shown signs of wear for months prior, raising questions about delayed maintenance.
Local fishermen like Mike Harlan, who’s fished at Zorinsky for 15 years, call the delay unacceptable. “I’m just upset,” he told BNN. “This is prime fishing season, and half the pier is unusable. How long does it take to replace a few boards?”
BNN reached out to Omaha Parks and Recreation for updates. A spokesperson said repairs are “in the bidding phase,” but couldn’t confirm when work would begin. Meanwhile, visitors brace for a summer of limited access.
