The Galaxy remains searching for consistency and continuity, and as the calendar relies on May, the possibilities to arrive will be plentiful.
The schedule requires seven games in the month and an opportunity for an eighth.
" This next week, it's a game every 4 days and after that after that, it's a game every 3 days," Galaxy coach Greg Vanney stated. "It gets hectic."
The more video games imply less time on the training pitch. For Dejan Joveljic, that's simply fine.
" We like that, more video games than training," the Galaxy forward stated. "Even better for us."
First up is Saturday at home against the Colorado Rapids (7:30 p.m., Apple TV+), followed by Wednesday's U.S. Open Cup meeting against the
Seattle Sounders and May 14 against the
San Jose Earthquakes.
All 3 games are house. Vanney hopes that counts for something.
" Our men like to go out and play, it's going to be good to play 3 video games at home in a row," Vanney stated. "Just to get some momentum and try and some rhythm ideally on our side, preferably play well and get some outcomes and get something out of this stretch.
" It's been not as smooth as we would've liked it to be, but this is an opportunity in the month of May where a great deal of things can evolve and change if we can get that momentum on our side."
The team's structure will receive a boost with the return of Riqui Puig, who needed to remain last week's 2-0 loss at
Orlando City SC due to yellow-card accumulation.
" It simply became a game of with a great deal of turnovers, shifts," Vanney stated. "It's costly defensively if you're in Florida and you're needing to protect in long stretches. It simply ends up being expensive physically.
He can wiggle out of pressure, sometimes in games when groups are high-pressing, he can do something a little different. He can select minutes when the video game requires to go fast or when the video game should slow down and I felt like we didn't do an excellent task of that."
The Galaxy and Rapids have one win each. The Galaxy is 1-5-3, while the Rapids are 1-3-6.
" They're a group that hasn't got a lot of results however they most likely deserve more than they've gotten," Vanney stated. "We have to make sure we defend well and manage the things we can control and try to keep the ball when we do have it and be aware of the shift minutes.
The ups and downs of Douglas Costa's short profession with the Galaxy dipped to another low.
Costa, who missed the first 4 video games due to a calf injury, returned and received a red card and had to sit out the LAFC game, reinjured himself last Saturday versus
Orlando City SC.
" First play of the video game, or second play, he hurt a calf, he wasn't sure what he attempted and felt to keep going through the (very first) half," Vanney said. "He'll be on a healing and go back to play (schedule) and it won't be extremely brief … … four weeks is normally the baseline for something like this."
