More than 300 Soap Box Derby racers from the U.S., Japan, and Canada paraded downtown in the Champions Welcome Parade, kicking off the 86th annual FirstEnergy All-American Soap Box Derby.
Participants walked down Main Street, chanting "Region 9, Region 9" as they made their way to Cascade Plaza, where the Champions Welcome Ceremonies took place.

One standout racer, 7-year-old Piper Taylor, won the local stock race in the Western Pennsylvania Soap Box Derby to qualify for the event in Akron. Piper's family, known as "Piper's Pit Crew," traveled from Pittsburgh to support her.
Piper's competitive spirit was evident, especially with her siblings also participating in the races. Her family showed immense support, with her mom mentioning how hard they work to make it all happen.
10-year-old Akron racer Lennox Lee will have over 50 supporters at the Rally Stock races this week. Despite being her second year racing, Lee enjoys spending time with friends and fellow racers.
Color-coordinated and ready to race, Lee shows off her spirit with vibrant bracelets matching her derby car.
Older participants like Paige Marthey and Megan DeLauder wore Santa hats as they raced in the Super Stock and Masters divisions. DeLauder, a first-time racer, enjoys the competitive yet friendly atmosphere of the event.
Marthey, a seasoned racer, looks forward to the connections and friendships made during the races.
