Midland Police Department responded to frantic 911 calls reporting gunfire at a popular downtown bar early Saturday morning. Witnesses described a scene of panic as patrons scrambled for cover around 1:30 AM at The Copper Keg, a well-known nightlife hotspot.
"It happened so fast—one second people were dancing, the next everyone was hitting the floor," said a bystander who asked to remain anonymous. "I heard at least five or six shots."
Officers arrived within minutes, securing the area and collecting shell casings from the parking lot. Midland PD's Gang Unit has joined the investigation, though authorities stress it's too early to confirm gang involvement.
"We're reviewing surveillance footage and interviewing dozens of witnesses," said Lt. Mark Reynolds. "This appears targeted, not random."
The Copper Keg has had three noise complaints in the past year but no prior violent incidents. Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission records show no recent violations. Some patrons are now questioning security measures:
