PITTSBORO, N.C. (WNCN)-- A North Carolina male is facing DWI and other charges after a female in his car passed away throughout a Chatham County crash while he left law enforcement last month, authorities stated.
The event was reported on Jan. 5 when a Chatham County Sheriff's Office deputy found a "suspicious" vehicle in the Bonlee location, according to a news release from deputies.
The silver Honda Accord remained in a gas station parking area when a deputy saw the 2 residents who were associated with "activity constant with using narcotics," the press release said.
" When the investigator pulled into the parking lot, the cars and truck left the parking area at a high rate of speed," officials stated in the news release.
During a chase, the getting away cars and truck passed in a no-passing zone and took a trip more than two times the speed limitation, the press release said.
The motorist of the Honda later lost control in the 6000 block of Bonlee Bennett Road and smashed into a telephone pole in the front yard of a house, deputies said.
A lady in the cars and truck, Amber French, 31, of Randleman, later on died from injuries in the wreck.
The chauffeur, Christopher Allen Davis, 40, of Asheboro, was air-lifted to UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.
Davis was charged with felony leave to elude arrest, in addition to, several traffic infractions that happened throughout the chase, deputies stated.
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol likewise charged Davis with second-degree murder, no liability insurance coverage, driving while impaired, failure to use seat belt-driver, stop working to preserve lane control.
Davis was placed in the custody of the Chatham County Detention Center without bond.
