SMITHVILLE, Mo. - - A man is behind bars after Smithville police stated he led officers on a chase in a stolen lorry and perhaps took numerous more.
An authorities chase on 4 wheels quickly developed into a foot go after just after 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, according to Smithville Police Chief Jason Lockridge.
" Detectives were dealing with numerous companies in Kansas," Lockridge stated.
He stated Topeka and Shawnee County agencies tipped off Smithville investigators that a taken automobile out of Kansas was near Paradise Pointe Golf Course in Smithville.
Cops stated officers identified the taken BMW near 180th Street and Rollins Drive and the suspect removed, leading officers on a short chase.
About a mile down the road, the 23-year-old motorist stopped in the Greyhawke community, went out and ran.
Officers chased him down and took him into custody within minutes, according to Lockridge.
" Not something we see daily, but I'm really pleased with the officer's reaction," Lockridge stated. "And the truth that we were able to take him into custody without event and hold him liable."
Lockridge also praises the interagency teamwork and observant neighbors who aided with the capture.

" We're happy for the cooperation on the Kansas side and we're also glad for the locals because neighborhood," Lockridge said. "Because without that we might not have actually had the ability to take him into custody."
Private investigators believe the 23-year-old is also involved in a number of other taken automobile cases that occurred in Smithville this year.
Lockridge stated the man had several felony warrants out of Kansas and is currently being kept in the Clay County prison on a $75,000 bond.
