CAY SAL, Bahamas-- A Coast Guard crew identified a sailboat shooting flares near Cay Sal in the Bahamas Friday.
That resulted in the discovery of a man who had actually been stranded on the island for 3 days.
" Aircrew located a guy stranded on the island and dropped supplies including food, water and a radio to establish communication," a press release states.
The guy stated he was stranded after he had boat problems.
" We're happy to have conserved this man's life. This case serves as an ideal example of why you should have the appropriate safety equipment on your vessel," stated Petty Officer 3rd Class Dev Craig, a Coast Guard Sector Key West watchstander. "Without seeing the flare, the case might not have had an effective result."
