In a case that's sent shockwaves through Hawaii's medical community, a respected Maui doctor stands accused of trying to push his wife off the treacherous Pali Lookout. The 53-year-old physician was arrested and charged with second-degree attempted murder, a crime that could carry a life sentence if convicted.
According to authorities, the incident occurred at one of Oahu's most breathtaking - and dangerous - viewpoints. The Pali Lookout, known for its dramatic cliff drops and powerful winds, became the scene of an alleged domestic violence incident that quickly escalated to attempted murder charges.
Criminal defense attorney Victor Bakke explained the severity of the charges: "Second-degree attempted murder requires proof of intent to kill. Prosecutors must show this wasn't just reckless behavior, but a deliberate attempt to take someone's life."
Court records reveal this wasn't the first violent incident between the couple. In 2020, the doctor was arrested for abuse but those charges were later dropped when his wife declined to prosecute. This history could significantly impact the current case.
The doctor, who remains in custody on $500,000 bail, faces an uphill legal battle. His medical career hangs in the balance as the community grapples with the allegations against a once-trusted healthcare provider.
