A 65-year-old Hemet guy was detained on suspicion of tried murder of a peace officer and being a felon in possession of a firearm,
Riverside County Sheriff's Department officials stated Saturday.
The suspect is a previous mobile house occupant who had actually recently been forced out by the owner of the residential or commercial property in the 42000 block of Highway 74 in the Hemet location, according to Sgt. Matthew Cramer of the
Riverside County Sheriff's Department.
Deputies responded to the area at 9:15 a.m. Friday relating to a report of a male who got into a vacant mobile home. Upon arrival, they validated that a break-in had occurred, and the man was still inside with a firearm, officials said.
A constable's SWAT team, Crisis Negotiation Team and Community Behavioral Health Assessment Team were contacted us to help with de-escalating the situation and to take the guy safely into custody.
During the negotiation, the man allegedly fired a weapon towards the deputies, striking a sheriff's car with several deputies nearby. He was apprehended after an hours-long negotiation without further incident, according to Cramer.
The man, who Cramer said was thought to mentally unsteady, was taken to a medical facility for a medical examination.
No deputies or civilians were hurt during the event.
The nature of his previous conviction was unknown.
