HOLYOKE, Mass. – A daring rescue mission unfolded in Holyoke this week when firefighters battled time and tight spaces to free a terrified raccoon trapped in a storm drain grate. The dramatic operation, captured on video, has since gone viral, showcasing the compassion and ingenuity of first responders.
Local residents first noticed the raccoon's plight when its frantic cries echoed from the depths of the storm drain. Firefighters arrived to find the animal wedged tightly in the metal grate, its hindquarters dangling precariously above rushing water below.
