The trial of a Las Vegas-area politician accused of killing investigative reporter Jeff German began Monday after the judge denied the defendant's request to dismiss the case. Jury selection is now underway in a case that has stunned Sin City and the world of journalism.
Jeff German, a veteran journalist with deep sources in the city, its government, and its courthouses, was found brutally murdered outside his home. The accused, Robert Telles, an elected public official, has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Telles maintains his innocence, claiming he has been framed and that the police mishandled the investigation. Prosecutors have not commented outside of court, but the state of Nevada is seeking justice for German and his family.
German, a respected journalist known for his investigative reporting, became the only journalist killed in the U.S. in 2022. Prosecutors allege that articles German wrote about Telles were a motive for the killing.
