AUSTIN - - The Texas House Committee on Public Health on Monday will consider a costs that would ban minors from getting medical treatment to change their gender.
HB 1686 by State Rep. Tom Oliverson (R-Cypress) would restrict physicians from supplying gender transition surgery or "the age of puberty blockers" to Texans under 18. It would likewise excuse that care from protection under state health insurance strategies.

The American Medical Association opposes any such legislation, calling it "a dangerous governmental intrusion into the practice of medication" that "will be harmful to the health of transgender kids" in a 2021 letter to the National Governors Association.
The costs corresponds the Texas Senate's buddy legislation, SB 14 by State Sen. Donna Campbell (R-New Braunfels). That bill was lost consciousness of the Senate State Affairs Committee on March 22 and is awaiting an argument on the Senate floor.
