FORT LAUDERDALE, FLA. (BNN) - As Broward County braces for potential flooding, residents are scrambling to stock up on sandbags and essential supplies. With Tropical Storm Milton swirling ominously in the Gulf of Mexico, the urgency of these preparations cannot be overstated.
In neighborhoods like Hollywood, locals like Linda Destasio are all too familiar with the threat of flooding. "I’m shaking already," she shared as she rushed to secure dog food and prepare her sandbags. "There’s no drainage, and there’s not a pitch on either level to say, ‘Go to this drain or that drain.’”
The city has been proactive in its efforts, having spent weeks digging trenches designed to help reroute water away from vulnerable areas. But as Milton approaches, residents remain on high alert, wondering if these measures will hold up against the impending storm.
Fort Lauderdale has set up sandbag distribution centers at Mills Pond Park and Floyd Hall Stadium. However, many residents are concerned that even with these preparations, they may still face severe flooding reminiscent of past storms.
"We’ll be under water by Thursday," one worried resident stated, reflecting the anxiety that many feel as the storm approaches.
As the storm looms closer, it’s crucial for everyone to stay informed and take necessary precautions. The community's resilience will be tested, but together, they can face the challenges ahead.
