Mobile Fire Rescue crews rushed to the scene of an intense house fire late Tuesday night on Dr. Thomas Avenue, battling flames that lit up the night sky. Witnesses reported thick black smoke billowing from the structure as firefighters worked to contain the blaze.
Firefighters encountered significant obstacles upon arrival, with neighbors reporting hearing multiple small explosions coming from the property. "The heat was so intense we could feel it across the street," said one resident who asked to remain anonymous. "Those firefighters are true heroes running into that."
Video footage from the scene shows:
Arson investigators have cordoned off the property as they begin the painstaking process of determining the fire's origin. Mobile Fire Rescue spokesperson Capt. Jeremy Williams told reporters, "We're treating this as a routine investigation until evidence proves otherwise. The damage appears extensive, which may complicate our efforts."
The fire has rattled the normally quiet neighborhood, with several families evacuated as a precaution. Local churches have already begun organizing assistance for the displaced residents. "This is the kind of street where everyone knows each other," said area resident Marcia Thompson. "We're just thankful no one was hurt."
