This Monday, March 18, Irvine Police are stepping up their efforts to keep the streets safe as part of a St. Patrick’s Day enforcement campaign. With celebrations in full swing, law enforcement is urging drivers to think twice before getting behind the wheel after drinking.
The Irvine Police Department (IPD) will be conducting a DUI saturation patrol throughout the city, specifically targeting impaired drivers. This initiative is part of a larger effort to reduce alcohol-related accidents and fatalities during one of the most popular drinking holidays of the year.
St. Patrick’s Day is often associated with festive parties and green beer, but it’s also a day when impaired driving incidents spike. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), drunk driving crashes claim lives every year during this holiday. The IPD is determined to prevent such tragedies in Irvine.
If you plan to celebrate, the IPD recommends the following:
Drunk driving isn’t just illegal—it’s dangerous. According to the NHTSA, nearly 30 people die every day in the U.S. due to alcohol-impaired driving. By taking proactive measures, the IPD aims to reduce these numbers and protect Irvine residents.
“We want everyone to enjoy St. Patrick’s Day, but we also want them to do so responsibly,” said an IPD spokesperson. “Getting behind the wheel after drinking puts lives at risk, and we’re committed to preventing that.”
