The El Paso Locomotive FC has hit a roadblock as several key players have contracted COVID-19, leaving the team shorthanded for their upcoming match against Phoenix Rising FC.
This news comes as a blow to the club, prompting them to quickly sign new players to bolster their squad. Defender Robert Coronado, who previously played for Central Valley Fuego FC in USL League One, was announced as a recent addition to the team.
In addition to Coronado, the Locomotive FC also signed midfielders Stiven Rivas and Ricky Ruiz. Rivas, a Colombian native, brings experience from playing in Colombia's second division, while Ruiz joins the team from Chattanooga Red Wolves SC in USL League One.
Both Ruiz and Coronado have a history with Locomotive head coach Wilmer Cabrera, having played for him during his time at Rio Grande Valley FC.
The match against Phoenix Rising FC is set to kick off at 9 p.m. Mountain Time on Friday night. Despite the setbacks, the Locomotive FC is determined to put up a strong performance on the pitch.
