Las Vegas residents joined the world in mourning the death of Pope Francis, the beloved spiritual leader whose progressive vision reshaped the Catholic Church. Known for his humility and bold reforms, his passing has sparked an outpouring of grief from local parishes to the Las Vegas Strip.
"He wasn’t just the Pope—he was a voice for the marginalized," said Father Carlos Perez of St. Anne’s Catholic Church. "His messages on poverty, climate change, and inclusion resonated deeply in our diverse community."
Vegas, a city often associated with excess, found an unlikely connection with the Pope’s teachings on compassion. Local interfaith leaders organized a candlelight vigil at the Guardian Angel Cathedral, where hundreds gathered to honor his legacy.
In a city that never sleeps, the iconic "Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas" sign dimmed its lights—an unprecedented gesture for a religious figure. The Diocese of Las Vegas also announced plans for a memorial Mass open to all faiths at the Thomas & Mack Center.
