Las Vegas female kills sis in believed DUI, speeding crash after both leave bar


LAS VEGAS (BNN) - - A night at a regional bar turned fatal when 2 siblings entered into a cars and truck and the older one decided to take part in a speeding contest with a chauffeur in another cars and truck, according to the arrest report.

Melissa Dettlaff, 26, is now dealing with felony charges in a crash that eliminated her sister Jessica Ann Dettlaff, 24, in the early morning hours of Wednesday, Feb. 21. on Silverado Ranch Boulevard near Bermuda Road.

According to court documents, the siblings were joined by John Gallagher at a bar for some beverages. After the trio left, the crash took place less than four miles away and in less than 15 after leaving the bar.

The Dettlaff sis remained in a maroon Mazda MX-5 and Gallagher was driving an orange Camaro. A witness told cops the automobiles seemed "racing or messing around" as the two drove side by side in the eastbound lanes of Silverado Ranch while speeding.

City police said Crash Data Retrieval reports from the cars revealed that the Camaro was taking a trip more than 90 mph and the Mazda was traveling in excess of 80 miles per hour at their greatest speeds.

The report mentioned the crash happened when Gallagher lost control of the Camaro and struck the ideal rear of the Mazda causing it to impact a tree and energy pole. Gallagher's Camaro hit a wall. Gallagher was provided Standardized Field Sobriety Tests at the scene and passed before he was transported for minor injuries to the health center.

Following the crash, Jessica Dettlaff, who was in the front passenger seat was unresponsive and bleeding from the head. She was pronounced dead at University Medical.

Melissa Dettlaff was also transferred for medical attention. While at Sunrise Hospital, a Metro law enforcement officer stated he saw she smelled of alcohol and obtained a search warrant for 2 blood draws. The outcomes of those blood draws are still pending.

Dettlaff is dealing with charges of DUI resulting in death, careless driving resulting in death, and racing. According to court records, she was launched from the Clark County Detention Center into a program for dependency. Her case is arranged for a status check in court on March 26.

The other motorist, Johnathan Gallagher, 24, deals with charges for reckless driving and racing, according to court documents.
