'Love fraudsters' facing 30 years in prison after apparently defrauding senior women, feds state


HOUSTON (BNN) – – A Fulshear male is being called a 'love scammer' after he allegedly conspired with another male to swindle over a lots senior ladies out of countless dollars, the Justice Department stated.

Darlington Akporugo, 46, of Fulshear apparently conspired with Jasmin Sood, 35, likewise of Fulshear, to dedicate wire and mail scams, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.

U.S. Attorney Alamdar S. Hamdani stated between 2015 and 2022, Akporugo and Sood utilized phony profiles to target elderly victims online, some who were typically widowed. An indictment is declaring the two used social networking and internet dating websites to get victims' trust.

It's reported the alleged scammers would then persuade their victims to transfer big quantities of cash to numerous scams savings account and mailing addresses. The feds are alleging much of those accounts were owned and or managed by Akporugo and Sood.

The operation allegedly triggered 13 victims to be defrauded acquiring a combined overall of $3,123,073. One victim happened to be from the Houston location, according to the charges.

Both deal with up to 30 years in jail one wire scams counts and conspiracy if founded guilty. If founded guilty of the aggravated identity theft, Akporugo deals with an additional 10 years on the scams in connection with a gain access to gadget and another compulsory two years.

Homeland Security Investigations performed the investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Grace Murphy is prosecuting the case.
