(FOX40.COM)-- A male in a wheelchair was fatally struck by an automobile in Modesto early Thursday morning, the California Highway Patrol said.

According to CHP, just before 6 a.m., emergency personnel reacted to a call of a vehicle striking a pedestrian near Santa Cruz Avenue and Mono Drive.

Life-saving steps were performed on the man but he died from his injuries. The chauffeur of the lorry, a Chevrolet SUV, stayed at the scene.
